On October 15 CCTV news journalist interviewed Unitalen Attorney Robert Li regarding overseas trademark registration. After due investigation Unitalen found out that trademarks of 15 garment companies from the City of Quanzhou had been registered in bad faith in Macao. Unitalen attorneys immediately got in touch with the China National Garment Association, Quanzhou Textile and Garment Chamber of Commerce and the infringing companies. Eight of the garment companies actively showed their determination to protect trademark rights, whereas the other seven refused to take any measures.
After half a year of hard work, the eight companies finally succeeded in getting protection of their overseas trademark rights. This case shows that, if a company’s intellectual property rights are infringed, it has to simply cooperate with respective law offices and maintain high spirits in order to get effective rights protection.
Robert Li took the opportunity to appear on TV to appeal to all companies. He urged them to make preliminary efforts on IPR protection to avoid possible infringement.
